Hi, hope somebody can advise. We got married last year and are still assessed as single. I work partime (earn 11, 000pa) my husband earns approx 40, 000pa. If he was to now claim my tax credits what is needed for us to do. Do revenue look back on both persons previous tax history if you don't request it or do they only look at from date you make the claim.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry edited to add we have 3 children if that makes any difference.

At a very rough guess, you could be taking home between you about 2.5 k more as jointly assessed!
Sign up for PAYE anytime, and you can transfer credits and cut off points between you.Alternatively ring revenue (today)

Thanks very much, I'm already registered with paye anytime, so will get my husband on too. Do they automatically give you a balancing statement or will they just apply from date applied do you think?

Read the link, its all explained there. You need to tell revenue of your marriage date last year, elect for joint assessment and ask them to check last year for a refund.
Once you are both up on PAYE anytime, your accounts will be linked and you can transfer credits etc yourself(if you need advice, don't be a stranger!)

Revenue will revise your tax free allowance certs and send them on to your employers. Revision in tax payments will occur from your next pay date.

Hi it would suit your situation to assign 41,800 standard rate band to your husband and 23,800 maximum balance to yourself. This will eliminate any tax at the higher rate. As it stands your spouse under single assessment would be paying tax at 41% on anything he earns over 32,800. If you ring 1890 22 24 25 is the revenue employee helpline, have your pps number at hand and when the machine lists the options available say none of these you will get through to a person and they ca n be very helpful in advising how best to apportion your credits and often do it over the phone. Best of luck
