HSE organ donation opt-out register

First attempt refused to recognise PPS number.

Second attempt "403 forbidden" error.

Anyone know if there's an option to do this the old-fashioned way (pen, paper, envelope, stamp)?
 
Not in anyway going to question anybody's decision on this but when it was first touted a few years ago I was very much in the WTH camp
"This is my body and you don't get to choose decisions like that with out my consent, how do I opt out"
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I had to renew my driving licence and the question of organ donation was raised
I opted in, thinking I'll be dead anyhow sure what does it matter and if somebody gains a better life from one of my organs,
Is that not a good thing??

I have encountered two people today who are currently donors as per their driving licence, who are not fans of the government and as a result they are withdrawing their consent as they are now being told they are automatically assumed to be donors.

Wow, how many other people are going to act in this manner due to their feelings on the government, the mind boggles.

These are and should be very separate matters, you were a donor many years before this came in - how on earth could this change your opinion.

And they are parents, I thought being a parent might change your mind on these things, unless of course you really have an aversion to it for a genuine reason (which some people do and that's fair x)

Anyway each to their own I guess.
 
Maybe some people aren't already fully aware of this?

Either way, it's every individual's prerogative to opt out if they choose. Not sure that they need to make a song and dance about it though.
 
What happens if a person tells their family they don’t wish to donate but doesn’t fill in the Opt-out Register? Does the assumed consent in the legislation take precedence

If you have not opted out, donation specialists will talk to your next of kin about organ donation. Organ donation will only go ahead with their consent.

Clearly an issue w the registration system at present.

Relative in question has their own reasons; its their choice to opt out & my only task is to facilitate their wishes.
 
I think it's a good thing and will give the gift of life to many more people. There is no need for anyone to worry / withdraw consent - no one will whip out your organs without talking with your next of kin. Make your wishes well known to them. As it is, even with this change only a small percentage of the deceased can even be considered for it. There are so many things to be considered medically.
