I have just been given the following mobile number by a French friend who is in Ireland at the moment '0033675774444'. She doesnt know if the phone will work in Ireland but thinks it will but I doubt if I should be using all those digits for an Ireland to Ireland call. Can anyone advise me?

Hi
If it is French mobile, that has network coverage here, you should be using all those digits. Her number will remain the same, as if she is still in France. It's the same if you bring your mobile abroad, you retain the same number (003538...), and anyone calling you from the county you are in would need to dial the Irish international code.
However, you might be better to text her, as it'll cost a fortune for her to receive calls. Might make more sense for her to get an Irish network SIM card and use that in her phone

She'll have to have had roaming enabled by her phone company and to have unblocked it herself. Finally, her phone company and at least one of the Irish ones need to have a roaming agreement.

The person making the call will need to cleared for international calls and to have unblocked it on their SIM.

Also, sometimes you need to key '+' instead '00'.

The standard for storing, dialling and expressing international numbers is to "+" before the country code as not all countries use "00" as the international dial-code prefix.

Probably a bit late but does she know how calls will be charged? For example if she rings France she will be charged international call, if someone in France rings her, the originator of the call will pay standard French mobile charges but she will be paying as if she rang someone in Ireland from France, if she rings someone in Ireland it will be better value. Anyway, just a thought...

first off, edit your post or your friend could get some dodgy phonecalls!

the easiest way to find out if that number will receive calls is to ring it, as others said you can either dial 00 first or +, ring it and see. then the cost is going to be a major factor, might be cheaper if they're going to be here for a while to get an irish pay as you go phone or an irish sim.
