How to stop illegal dumping?

Have a bit of a problem. Live at the end of a terrace on a street. No wheelie bins, rubbish is collected weekly in black bags which are supposed to be tagged.
Being on a laneway, people occasionally leave 'untagged' rubbish beside my house. This has started to become a bit more frequent of recent.

I guess the first step would be to report this to Dublin city council, but I believe people are wise to this & generally don't put post or identifying info in the rubbish.
Usually it's done under the cover of darkness, but I'm wondering what would I do if I actually caught the persons in the act?

Any other thoughts/suggestions on how to deal with this?
I don't want to go down the "hi-tec" route, survelance, webcams etc.

Thanks.

Would you consider installing a PIR sensor light? Also, get a sign that says the area is protected by cctv. It just might work.

If you call the council, they may decide to install a camera and investigate for themselves.

+1 for a sign...even if you don't bother with the camera. It highlights that you know someone is dumping there and that you are watching.

I put a sign up at a holiday home & it made a big difference. You can even buy "mock" cameras.

I'd certainly contact DCC as people are frequently stupid enough to leave bills and addresses in their rubbish!!
