How to split property expenses?

I own a foreign property with my husband who currently isn't working. For a tax return does the rental income and expenses have to be split 50:50 between us?

We've had particular additional expenses this year which I've paid for.

Split the rent on the basis of ownership.

Income would first need to be declared in the overseas country where the property is located first. Provided country has a double tax agreement with Ireland you would get a credit for any taxes paid in the foreign country aginst taxes due here. In both instances costs would be split 50:50
