I hope some legal experts can help my wife with a problem regarding her citizenship status.
She was born in the UK to Irish parents and hence has dual UK/Irish nationality and holds a current UK passport. She did hold an Irish passport but it expired several years ago.
She lived in Ireland until she was 20, then moved to the UK to find work in the 80's, finally returning to Ireland 4 years ago.
The Dept Social Welfare will not acknowledge her Irish citizenship without her being able to produce an Irish passport but she doesn't want to renew her Irish passport as her UK one has several years to run
Is there some othar way to prove nationality other than a passport ?
After all it is not compulsary to possess a passport
I would have thought that her nationality would be recorded somewhere else than a paper document that could easily be lost, doesn't the PPS No prove who you are ?
