How to fill gap between window boards and windows?

Hi

The gap of a couple of millimetres between our wooden windows and our window boards was filled with clear silicone in our new build about a year ago. I've since heard that this is not the way to finish the job and the silicone is starting to come away. i want to sort this before Winter - can anybody recommend a way to fill this gap? People have recommended wood filler but thought that I would check here before trying it

i have used caulk and 3 years later its still perfect.

silicone is a bad idea as it doesnt take paint.

Caulk is your only man, easy to use and does the job perfectly

Can either of you recommend a particular type/colour of caulk. I will be sealing between wooden windows and red deal window boards

What finish are you putting on red deal window boards. We painted ours white and used white caulk, which blended in perfectly once painted.

We are just varnishing the windowboards - no paint.​

silicone will take oil based paint, ie gloss or undercoat, but not water based, ie wall emulsion

A lot of gloss and undercoat paint is water based now. Oil based is becoming scarce.
