How to distribute tax credits

Hi, hoping someone could give me some advice as to how to distribute tax credits between myself and my husband. At the moment he has all of our credits as I wasn't working when we got married.

His gross income: approx. €28000, public service worker

Me: I'm a primary school teacher but not in a permanent position. I mainly work maternity contracts and have one starting in September, due to last until March. I earn approx. €1000 per week before tax (I take home about half of that). I don't get paid for holidays like Halloween, Christmas etc. After March I may have only one/two days of work per week.

I'd really appreciate any advice as to whether we should leave all the tax credits with my husband or if it would make better sense to split them?

Thanks in advance

You should take back your rate bands in any event as your husband can earn up to €32,800 before paying tax at the higher rate.

Your husband can't use your employee(PAYE) tax credit in any event so you will get that. Either of you can use the personal tax credit so that is a personal decision. It won't make any difference to your combined tax liability but obviously will make a difference to each on a personal level.
