Just wondering how safe is CREST? I know it is recommended on this site as the way to hold shares in preference to a nominee account. I have a CREST account with a stockbroker and a nominee account with NIB. I find NIB more user friendly and can see my stocks on line at any time. It bugs me that I can't directly view my holdings on line with CREST - I can't understand why I have to go via the stockbroker for a statement when the holdings are in my name - The result of this is that I lack confidence in CREST and feel more confidence with the nominee account. Should I resist the temptation to go the nominee route??

Crest is certainly safer than a nominee account.
However, I think share certs is the safest of all.
