Hi all, further to my thread 'considering tenancy for first time' we have been viewing some properties.
There is one we are very interested in but it is asking 1200 per month. this is slightly too much for us so we were thinking of offering 1k which would be comfortable for us.
Bear in mind all i said in my previous post, we want to make this a home therefore lovingly maintain it and garden etc and even agree to do some work such as install decking if allowed.
As a tenant what would you feel comfortable offering per month on a 1200 guide and as a landlord what would you accept in the current market??
I guess that would depend on the landlord really. He/she is most likely paying a mortage on the property and would rather have something coming in than nothing.
I'd definitely have a go and ask the landlord to consider it.
Hi Maxol, Speaking as a landlord, I would be more than willing to let to you if I was sure that you would keep the house /gardens in good repair. If I were you I would also suggest that you tell your prospective landlord that you are looking to stay for x number of years as opposed to a 6 month/1 year contract.

Is that a good idea? Circumstances can change for any amount of reasons..the OP may be bound to an agreement/contract/lease for x amount of years and find it difficult to get out of if the need arised.
Perhaps that's not what you ment, It's just as I read it.
It wouldn't do any harm to state your intentions are long term but only sign an agreement on a renewable annual basis.
Don't be nervous to haggle Maxol!! Go for it and best of luck.
