I have just 6 years prsi paid as previous to this I was a homemaker. I am now late 40's and work full time. I have a few queries regarding contributry pension. I would hope not to work up to 65 and would like to finish at 60 this would give me about 18 years prsi payments and I may have a years payments around 1981 how would this work would I have enough paid in to qualify for a pension also would it make any difference if I was not contributing form age 60 to 65 . If I wanted in a year or two to go on a 3 day week would this affect my pension. What do I need to do to ensure that I would qualify for a contributry pension. My husband would have paid prsi from 1979 to 1992 and then became self employed from 1992 - 2002 and from 2002 to currently he is employed in a job while not in the public sector but aligned with the public sector (he had paycuts in january) and his employer is contributing some money towards his pension but he is not. He expects to continue in this job for another 8 years so would then have 16 years of have an employer paying towards a pension. Will he just get a contributry pension or will he get something extra.
