Hi there
Was wondering if anyone could tell me how much annual leave I would be entitled to if working 20 hours per week?
I know there are ways of calculating it but it doesn't make much sense to me.
I would be working 2.5 days a week, totally 20 hours. Year runs from Jan to December.
To work out number of hours worked, in a year, do I multiply 20 * 52?

I am looking for part time in work and this is going to come up. My employer only gives the statutory minimum, 20 days for a 40 hour week, so I just want to make sure I know exactly what I am entitled to.

Thanks!

Typically if 20 days are given to full time workers working 40 hrs per week, then if you work half of the hours you'll get half of the annual leave entitlement (10 days).

The terms and conditions of the particular employment should outline exactly what your entitlement will be.

  1. Based on the employee’s working hours during what is called the leave year, which runs from jan to dex. An employee who has worked at least 1,365 hours in the leave year (that is, an average working week of 26.25 hours) is entitled to the maximum of four weeks’ annual leave. Many employers use the calendar year (January-December) instead of the official leave year to calculate entitlement
  2. By allowing 1/3 of a working week for each calendar month in which the employee has worked at least 117 hours
  3. 8% of the hours worked in the leave year, subject to a maximum of 4 weeks

You are entitled to 8 hours for every hundred you work in a year .........so you should qualify for 10.40 days annual leave based on 20 hours per week.
