Hi folks...
a friend is working for a company that is pretty ad hoc. a working week of 50 hrs is being introduced. Can anybody tell me if this is legal, and does over time have to be paid after so many hours?
There are no contracts to sign -or holiday, sick pay or anything. its one of those companies!
That's not legal. Generally you would be looking at getting overtime after 39 hours, the "standard" working week. 48 hours is the max number of hours that should be worked. Period.
Only if there is a special agreement between employer and employee that is approved by the Labour court.
Normally is averaged over 4 month or over 6 months for certain jobs.

OK, but it's in any given week.
In reality many people I know work more than 48 hours a week, averaged over the year. The real world has a habbit of ignoring stupid rules.
