Unfortunately funds were transferred in error to a closed Bank of Ireland account yesterday (Friday) and have not bounced back yet. The old details were still included on the beneficiary list with AIB.

Can anyone confirm how long it would take approximately for the funds to bounce back as the account was closed a few years ago? Tried ringing BofI but not available for this type of query until Monday. AIB have said give it until Wednesday and if nothing comes back by then to contact them and they will request a recall which can take anything up to 15 days. They also mentioned that the return can be on a goodwill basis but surely that is if it is only on an open account and not a closed one?

Regardless of the bank, it'd take minimum 2 SEPA cycles to be returned. The is no real time exchanges between banks in Ireland.

So if it was 1st thing Friday morning, Monday evening would be the earliest you'll see it back in your AIB account. If you missed Friday cutoff, it would be Tuesday at earliest.
