how do i get rid of a plant root?

my parents had ivy growing up one side of the house but recently took it own. However when we went to dig up the root we discovered it had spread very deep and is under the driveway so cant be removed. is there a treatment that can be used to kill it off or any advice on what to do?

There are special poisons available for killing roots, especially for old tree roots. Your local garden centre might be able to advise, otherwise google.

Depending on the size of the root/stem you can use a method similar to the one mentioned in the post as well.
Be aware that when a root of a certain size decomposes below ground, it can lead to settlement of the top surface (driveway).
