How can I keep the seat beside me empty?

Strange assertion. In my experience - and my first Ryanair flights were back in 1998 when I was working in Paris - if one pays to reserve a seat then one gets it.
Just back from canaries, Ryanair both ways delayed for 30 min as they moved people around the plane so kids weren’t separated from parents , both flights overbooked, assisted passenger assigned seat full when they finally got the lift to board her, they blamed having different planes from original planned with less seats. 4 hour plus flights with loads of people separated and moved from their booked seats. Know of hundreds of people with similar Ryanair stories and I have a few more myself. Never use them unless like this trip no other way of getting somewhere.

should we allowing people to book second class seats on flights if they want more room let them go first class,

I see this on our inter city trains at present where seats with tables are booked and the only thing on them is a bag or coat beginning to cause problems,

people who are standing start sitting on vacant seats and causing bad feeling at times,

n interesting question arose last night at the end of a 40th wedding anniversary meal (small quantities of fermented grape juice may have been consumed).
If you paid first class maybe a little less fermented grape juice may have been consumed problem solved,

Ryanair will randomly allocate seats at the exit to under 18s. Then when boarding they won't allow under 18s to sit in those seats and start moving people around. If people won't swap, would they take your comfort seat?

Yes, you can book a second seat for comfort if you want:
If it was that easy I possibly never have posted,
My first post was no 23
I don:t know for sure if this is correct if for some reason they are fully booked and your seat gets taken you have no come back because you have already boarded,

Again it is quite possible passenger did not declare comfort seat at boarding time,

not sure do you know what the small print says,
can they refuse at boarding and give you your money back,

Few of the people who fly first class are paying for their own tickets. My question related to the 99.72% who fly cattle class.

I know that well
Just make sure you Check in the second ticket at boarding or your seat could get reallocated if flight is fully booked,

I travel frequently work and leisure and if travelling with someone I book a window and an aisle seat in the last few rows (except the very last row) as these middle seats seem to be the last allocated....nothing scientific about this but on my last 6 flights worked 5 out of the 6 times on almost full flights....but i guess you would have to accept that you may not be sitting beside your companion if doesn't work....guess that could be a good or a bad outcome!!!!
