Housing estate name being changed.

looking for advise,
got a letter thru the door last night stating my estate name is being changed.
An adjacent estate has the same name and they are getting to keep it.
Just wondering who is responsible for an fees i incur?

That sounds unusual. Is there any sort of management company or residents' association for your estate? On whose authority is it being changed - council?
 
This might help - its a change of address service. Have never used it but might be worth checking out. If you use the product code given, the service is free.

But I am curious why the name has changed? I know there was a bit of a debate a while back with builders naming things Dale / Vale / Close with no link to any historical naming. Anyhow, best of luck with it.

what fees will be applicable?
 
There is a small estate to the back of ours which has the same name.
So they are keeping theirs and we have to change ours.

I was wondering about the mortgage/deeds of the house etc.

who named the estate? why would you name an estate something that was already used?

If you are re-mortgaging, the lender will require a letter from the Co Council to show your address has been amended and stating that it is the same property.

Don't forget to change your correspondence address with your lender too.

No you won't - the mortgage will either be by folio number or by map or by reference to the conveyance under which you bought the property.

Just let the lender know out of courtesy and in the letter say that if they have any queries they can address them to the council.
 

What I meant was the lender (if they currently hold the title deeds) will have to have it confirmed by the council. Maybe some lenders will do this directly with the council but in my experience the lender (if they currently hold the title deeds) will ask the house owners to organise this.
 
This was quiet common in the 80's, eg one bought a house at Plot 3, X estate, now known as 23, The Green, X estate etc.

From a legal and title deeds perspective, keep the letter you just got from the council confirming the name change - it will save you c. €150.00 when you re-mortgage or resell in future.

Otherwise I would just inform the lender that your correspondence address has been changed (and hopefully they will update their system). The deeds department of your lender may note it on their system, or they may not, so you should quote both addresses with them in your dealing with that section in future.
