I have an elderly aunt who is soon going into a care home due worsening dementia. She is vacating her property which does not immediately need to be sold to pay her care costs.
My family and I are already selling our own property in the same village, in readiness for a move to Wales, as my wife's parents are ill and she wishes to be with them.
My question therefore is if we move into my aunt's empty property for a period of time until we are ready to move to Wales and 'House Sit' for her, is there any tax regulations or other rules that we need to be mindful of?
A 'House Sitting' agreement would be signed and normal duties undertaken by us in looking after the house for her, with utilities being paid for by us.
The information I have seen on 'House Sitting' suggests that this kind of Rent Free living is fine as it is of benefit to both parties but being the sceptical type I'm sure there must be some rules somewhere to govern this situation but can't find them.
Any thoughts appreciated.
