We need to renovate/update a 60 year old farmhouse. The work which needs to be done:
New kitchen - small back kitchen to be rewired/walls slabbed & plastered/plumbing
Main Kitchen - walls slabbed & plastered/replace 60yr old Stanley(?) - keep or replace?
Bathroom - new bathroom suite - keep bath(?)/add shower/walls slabbed & plastered/tiling

Decoration/floor covering etc.
Can anyone advise what order these should be done in - do we get written quotes from contractors etc.

Never done anything like this before & need advice before starting job.

I've just bought a house over 100 years old and I'll be tackling the job from the top down i.e. roof first, bedrooms and then downstairs.

From initial enquiries ... the best advice I'm getting is to ensure that I maximise insulation as I go. Roof and walls will be a priority ... what I'm going to do to maximise insulation I have yet to figure out.

To comment on some of the things you have posted:

kitchen ~ you mention rewiring ... if rewiring is a whole house job you need to have a good idea of your overall layout, lights/sockets etc. Pretend you're living there - location of furniture/t.v. etc.

Plumbing ~ again ... look at upstairs bathroom/heating .... etc.

I'd keep a bath id at all possible. The house I bought doesn't have one but if possible I'll be putting in one at some stage.

Decoration .... painting last to be done.

Floor covering ... depends on what you're after: tiles/timber/carpet.

You need to know exactly what you want before you even think of negotiating with a contractor. If you change direction after negotiating a contract you could end up being fleeced.
