FTB shopping around for House Insurance, are the rebuilding costs similar to what you paid for your house?
 
no - rebuilding costs should be less than purchase price - remember you don't need to rebuild the land under your house that you own upon purchase.

As you'll see recommended elsewehere on this site, sites like http://www.123.ie , and http://www.labrokers.ie and http://www.ferga.com/ are worth checking out for different types of insurance.
 
Is it a house or an apartment? If it's an apartment, it will likely be covered by a block policy (that I think is paid for through the management fee) and you only need to worry about contents insurance only.

In addition to the brokers mentioned by Oh Pinchy, I would recommend FBD.
