Are there any insurance companies out there that will insure someone that has claimed on their house insurance previously? We had a modest claim for water damage and Zurich via 123 have increased the premium greatly as a result.

Is it a case of having to suck it up and waiting for several years?

Also are there any insurers that don't promise to hand over your claim payout direct to the mortgage company?

1. Well, you could lie on your proposal form! But I rather suspect that there is more information pooled by insurers than we suspect.

2. I suspect so.

3. Mortgage - as long as you have a mortgage, your lender has an insurable interest in the property and claims cheques should be made payable to them and you. When you are mortgage free, any claims cheques can be made payable to you directly.

It really depends on the size of the claim and how many years ago it was.
It would be no harm in contacting a broker.

If you have a mortgage it is a condition that your lender has their interest note on the policy.
In the case of small claims it is normal for the cheque to be made payable to the policyholder only but in the larger ones the cheque is made out in joint made.
