House deeds lodged with bank

I paid off the remainder of my mortgage 2 months ago,and got a receipt for same.The bank/lender sent a letter to their legal department to release my house deeds,on the day of payment. After 2 calls,and demands to the same bank,to no avail.I need my deeds now.What should I do?.If I employ a solicitor,who pays for the solicitor?.

A time scale of 2-3 months is about average for return of Deeds. If you need them now, is that because you are selling? If so, don't you need a solicitor anyway? If you do get a solicitor, you pay.
