House Burglar Alarm

Your Insurance company will normally insist that whichever company you choose to use is a member of ISIA,

Do you have to get a member of the ISIA to install an alarm?
A friend of mine is an electrician and he used to install alarms before the ISIA cert came in.

Could I not get him to install an alarm, it would be installed just as well as a ISIA certified installer?

If there is a large amount of valuables, the Insurance Co. will insist on the alarm fitted and monitored by an ISIA member

Armtec are based down the country. Might be a bit far.
For the Dundrum area try:
Cuala Security 012148252
or
B-Link Security 014508314

You are legally bound to employ a PSA licenced installer.
You can check the register here

Colm,
Thank you for giving me a list of PSA licenced installer, will contact both installers.
will let you know afterward.

I think for Insurance purposes that the alarm company is required to be a member of the ISIA. (Irish Security Industry Association). It may be best to check with your Insurance Company before you go down the route of using a contractor that the Insurance Co do not recognise.

The PSA is a legal requirement. These are the only installers you may use.
All members of the PSA will be certified by the NSAI & therefore are the ones your insurance company will recognise.
The ISIA is meerly an association.

Maybe Colm, but my Insurance Co insisted that the alarm was fitted by an ISIA member. It's not me making the rules, I just want my property insured.

Are you sure they didn't require NSAI member..?
Your Insurance company must accept a system certified to EN50131
For a system to comply to that standard the company must be NSAI certified & PSA licenced. That is a legal requirement. Being a member of ISIA is irrelevant. Your insurance company can not demand this.
I am not saying they didnt. Its a bit like insurance companys refusing to quote certain people when in fact they are legally oblidged to.
Can I ask who your insurer is?

At the time of moving home, the insurers were Chubb Insurance who clearly stipulated the terms of cover and now the current Insurers are Benchmark Insurance.

I'll check that out & get back to you. NSAI certification is all that they should require.

This is the reply I got from Benchmark Insurance

Colm,

We give 10% for any alarm and 20% for a linked(monitored) alarm.

I hope this helps.

Benchmark Underwriting Ltd.
NCI Business Campus, IFSC, Dublin 1

No requirement for ISIA membership.
I have also questioned the NSAI on this. I will post their reply when I get it.

I don't think I would mention having a burglar alarm in my insurance. A work colleague's alarm was broken for a week, during which time he was burglared and the insurance company refused to pay out. It only saves around €25 off the insurance (well depending on what valuables you own). You also wouldn't have to worry about if they were ISIA or not.

You dont have to worry if they are ISIA or not..
Only that the company is NSAI & PSA Licenced.
Since it is now illegal to employ unlicenced companys to Install or maintain your alarm you shouldnt have any problem, unless ofcourse you go out & dont set the alarm

Well, it is not for my house, it is for my sister's house, i let her know about PSA Licenced installer, she finally got Budgetcostalarm, PSA Licened holder as it said, all wireless with monitored (One year include), contact to mobile phone if alarm go on, (not sure if i am allowed to tell the cost on askaboutthe money.com?)

Call us for a NO OBLIGATION quotation !
100%
back up service on all installations.
Installed to IS 199 Standard !! ???

IS199 is now obsolete . I hope their alarms are more up to date than their website.
