I am thinking of getting a fire fender with brass rail for the fireplace in the sitting-room to protect the carpet from coal dust etc when fire is lit, and also to improve appearance of fireplace. Haven't ever had a fender and I am wondering if it would get very hot when the fire is at full stength and thus be a danger if touched. Has anyone experience of this? thanks
