I remember asking myself the same question and after looking into it, concluded it was a good option to have.
That was also the advice I received from a contact with decades of experience in general insurance.
I have never had resort to use it though.

I presume the info below here is also valid for Irish market e.g. covers things like disputes with tradesmen, someone claims to have been injured on your property, or your property suffers damage due to a leak from a neighbours. It does not provide compensation, but provides 50,000 - 100,000 to allow you to pursue \ defend such claims.
