home carers tax credit

I just can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. I left work in november 2009 to go on maternity leave. I was paid maternity leave by the state until may (with no extras from employer). I decided to not go back to work for now and was paid by work in July 2010 for holiday leave accrued over the 6 months as is normal. Should I have been able to claim home carers tax credit for 2010 as it was added without request to my husbands tax credits in 2011. Or does maternity benefit and the payment from work rule me out ie I know both are taxable and is there a limit?

Thanks for any help

sorry just to clarify my jumble, i am basically asking does receiving maternity benefit and/or child benefit rule out receiving home carers credit

No, neither of these payments are taxable (http://www.citizensinformation.ie/e...ment/taxation_of_social_welfare_payments.html), they do not figure as income for the purposes of the home carer tax credit, so based on what you have said you would be entitled to it in 2010, and 2011 as well if you don't go back to work (or work but earn less than the limits as outlined here http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it66.html).
