Holiday home letting agent

I am looking for holiday home letting agents to help me get short term tenants for a holiday home. I do not want a full time tenant but would like to get more week-to-week bookings that I do at the moment, especially off-season.

I was talking to a woman at one agency today, and she told me there was a registration fee of EUR160, as well as commission when the house was booked.

I don't mind the commission but was surprised at the registration fee. Is this usual practice? My problem is that I could pay the fee and not get any tenants at alll, leaving me out of pocket.

Does anyone have any experience with holiday home letting agencies which they'd be willing to share?

Can anyone recommend reputable agencies?

There are a huge range of online sites where you can advertise. Do a google search for properties similar to your own and see what sites are popular. Some are commision based but with the majority you pay a fixed annual fee and arrange the letting directly yourself.

Does anyone know how the revenue treat holiday home rentals for income tax? If a holiday home is available for rent for most, if not all of the year, but is only rented during the summer months as nobody wants it in the winter, is all interest on the mortgage and running costs allowable against the income?
