Hi there,

I wonder if anyone out there can help my friend;

She had a problem with two areas of the roof on her terraced house. She had a few different builders / roofers in to do quotes and chose a firm called Atlas Roofing, based in Stillorgan, because she was impressed with their apparantly thorough survey of the problem. She was dealing with a guy called John with an English accent.

Long story short, a team of 4 guys from Atlas turned up before Christmas for two days to fix the problems. They appeared to do alot of work and even got her to climb up the ladder a couple of times to show her stuff they were doing. When they were finished she asked them to drop in the photos they had taken (for insurance company) and receipt after Christmas, but she went ahead and paid them 900euro.

When they didn't drop the stuff in she started calling the phone numbers she had for them only to find both land line and mobile disconnected. And she has no address for them. AND the leaks are continuing.

She has had 2 other roofs round to look at the work and they say it is really badly unfinished - no flashing, no sealing etc and that it will cost 1300 to do the job properly.

Eircom will not give her an address for the disconnected landline so she's going to speak to the Gardai today.

Two requests:

1. Does anyone know of these bozos - Atlas Roofing?

2. Does anyone have any ideas about what she can do to track them down and get them to sort out the work / repay her.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I found these details from the internet and the phone rings 16 kilometers away from Stillorgan could this be them?

Atlas Roofing & Guttering. Coolock D 17 Co. Dublin. (1890)941083

Thanks chris20051, I've passed that number to my friend (I found it online too), and she's going to try it when she finished work early this afternoon. Fingers crossed!

Be a little careful here .......... I thought you said that they were Stillorgan based?

Thanks Simeon, and yes of course she'll be careful. She's going to phone and see if she recognises the voice first and then try and determine if it's the same company. Thanks though.

Probably meant sillogue.

I've made the same mistake several times

I also had Atlas roofing do some work for me. The also wanted to be paid in cash and didn't want to provide a receipt. I eventually got a receipt, which looks dodgy (no VAT number etc) but was asked to make the cheque out to an individual rather than Atlas Roofing. I can provide this name if required. This company do have a bright coloured van with Atlas roofing logo painted on the sides. However they are not the same company as Atlas Roofing ion Coolock. Their address in Stillorgan does not exist and they are presumably not declaring any income.
