Hi, hope some one can help, first year in business, and have to do my taxes, i know I am leaving it late. But I dont know where to start and cant really afford an accountant. I set up the business through the social welfare in July last year so only have 5 months to calculate but have no idea where to start.

Apart from being last minute, you haven't given any actual details. Are you sure you cannot afford an accountant. They are not that expensive. Otherwise revenue website and calling into revenue staff might yield some results.

If you can't afford an accountant I would suggest you try your local Citizens Information Office to see if you would qualify for an appointment with CAVA which are their volunteer accountants panel who help people who cannot afford accountants advice. Even one appointment might help you sufficiently. Also quite a few Cit Info offices would have volunteers that may have accountancy experience so may be able to give you some help.

A bit late now but local Enterprise Boards often run courses on how to fill your tax return for small sole traders.

That's a great bit of advice, never knew that, and ditto Citizens Information being able to help.

It's actually something revenue ought to consider running.

Why have you no idea where to start?
Its not hard: its only knowing what is income, expense, asset, liability.

Are you registered for ROS?
If so have you logged in recently to make sure it all works for you?
What is the nature of the business?
Describe it a bit.
Are u self employed or is it a limited company?
Do you have a separate bank account?
Do you owe anyone any money?
Does anyone owe you money?
Did you buy any assets
