Heating System for New Build

I've just got planning for a 3600sq ft house. The house was designed by an Architect. The design is based on the old farm yard style system i.e. with differnt courtyards and the plan of the house is in a 'L' shape with south facing glazing. I got a preliminary energy rating of an A3 based on the house design/plans etc..
I was thinking of using underfloor heating, geothermal system and solar panels for the hot water.
Anyone have advice/experience of a suitable heating system. I heard geothermal is expensive i.e. increased ESB bills due to pump running cost.
Would anyone recommend a suitable secondary heating system?
 
How did it get a perlim BER rating of A3 if your only deciding on a heating system now??? what system did the assessor use??? was the assessor an independant professional or part of a company thats trying to sell you something???

UFH, + geothermal + solar is a very good system provided:
1. your construction method compliments it (ie not a trad block build!!)
2. you have an airtight building envelope
3. you install MHRV and not passive vent sin the walls
4. you have no open chimneys!!!
5. you have the budget to cover the initial costs (3600 sq ft could cost €35K upwarsd for UFH, geo and solar panels)

regards the ESB, your systems main fuel is electricity so definitely expect to pay more in your bills... however if the construction is properly designed and carried out, the system shouldnt have to run over-time and thus should be very efficient.

Your other options are:
1. a 'passive house' with a small heating back up
2. biomass wood pellet boilers
3. oil
4. gas
5. other solid fuels
 

I used a energy consultant. He made a number of assumptions as follows;
1. Primary Space Heating and Domestic Hot Water Source = Geo-thermal 'ground-to-water heat pump'
2. Solar 'evacuated-tube-bundle-collectors' for the primary heat source for the hot water.
3. Heat recovery system
Are the above systems proposed any good?
 
they are all good...

they all have high initial installation costs though.

Im not so sure about the solar collectors as being the primary heat source for the hot water, surely your boiler / heat pump will be the primary source.
 
Seemingly all the domestic heat pumps are soon to be out-moded and a smaller version of the non-domestic type will superceed them and be much more reliable and efficient (or so a very reliable source has infromed me!)

CHP anyone?
