Dear Snowyb ,

we are a family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers (the oldest now 18) who have been on Laya Health Care for the past two years.
We have currently got Simply Connect Plus for the parents and
Essential Connect Family for the teens.
It is due for renewal on Jan 1st.

Very thankfully we have not suffered any major illnesses or medical scrapes in the past year. Just some doctor visits and normal family viruses etc.
Have not managed to claim much back either.
However there may be a joint replacement operation in the offing.
Should we stay on these plans or are there other plans that are better value and might suit us better?
Thanking you in advance for any advice you care to give me.

Hi music,

For the 2 younger teens the following offer from December 15th with Laya will suit, details as follows;
1. Essential Health 300; price 234 (new offer whereby you pay for the first child and the rest are free); all public and private hospitals covered(including
Beacon hospital) private hospital excess 300 x 2 max per year for all admissions, day case excess 125 per procedure.

For the 18 year old, VHI are most competitive on price for young adults, details as follows;
1. One Plan 250; price 312; all public and private hospitals covered, private excess 250 x 2 max for all admissions per year. Day case excess
150 per procedure.

2. Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 382pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 150 per admission,
day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for gp, dental, consultant visits etc. subject to a total refund of
1000 per year.

For the 2 adults, the only alternative plan worth considering is Laya Simply Connect, details as follows;
1. Laya Simply Connect; price 1100pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 150 x 2 max per year for all
admissions, day case excess 50 per procedure. Note; there is no excess to pay for orthopaedic joint replacement surgery in any private or
hi-tech hospital. This type of surgery is fully covered - no shortfall, no excess in any hospital with Laya. There would be a shortfall with VHI or
Irish Life so Laya are the best option for this type of surgery.
Good day to day cover on this plan - 50% refund for gp, consultant, dental, physio etc subject to a total refund of 500 per year.

The main difference between this plan and your current plan is; Simply Connect Plus(your current plan) has a total day to day refund of 1000
compared to Simply Connect = 500 max refund.
These refund amounts were increased last year from 300 to 500 and from 500 to 1000.

So I would recommend at least one of you could switch to Simply Connect - that is the person NOT having surgery for joint replacement.
For the person maybe having surgery, its weighing up the calculation of the medical expenses involved. Cost of consultant visit, gp visits, possible
physio afterwards etc. and also factoring in the savings of 150 to see if it is worth switching to Simply Connect.

Just to note, with a renewal date of 1st January 2019, there may be other price changes to be announced in the first week of December relating
to 1/1/2019. It will be interesting to see what offers are lined up for January.

Regards, Snowyb
