Hi,

Just wondering does anyone know if it is right that my masters was not recognised for points for secondary teaching (by PDEAC)? I have a degree in Engineering and also a research masters in Engineering but my masters does not seem to have been recognised in terms of points. It says it must be relevant but surely if they are accepting my primary degree then they would accept a masters in the same subject.

Thanks

Isn't it a question of 'do you know how to teach' not 'do you know how to engineer'?

[broken link removed] page 22 gives points for masters, but doesn't distinguish between taught and research masters.

The appeals procedure is stated on page 12, but a telephone call to the office might show they just made an error in calculations.

I cant see why it wouldnt be counted, you may put someone under pressure bout that and fast. Remember too that having a masters then doing the hdip will mean that you will pay full fees for the dip given that you have a higher qualification

Thanks for the help guys, I can't figure why it wasn't counted either so will send in the appeal form and let you know how I get on. (Unfortunately they wont do phone enquiries!)

Well I got a reply and it was a mistake on their part. They are adding on the 6 points for the masters and I will be offered my first choice in round 2.

Thanks for the replies.

That's good news, of course it counts and you will also earn a couple of hundred euro extra a year for the extra qualification. Good luck with the course!
