I'm not sure that retiring at 60 is incompatible with enjoying your job.

Fully agree. But it's worth asking the question.

In your case, could you have cut down your hours? There seems to be nothing wrong with you job apart from the fact that it interferes with your sleep.

It wouldn't be feasible at present, given financial commitments around college expenses in particular. It might be an option closer to retirement, maybe around 62 or 63. Or will we all be on a four day week by then anyway?

I was planning on using those final years for boosting the value of existing private pension by making additional AVC contributions, as detailed in this thread so I might need to reconsider the timing there.
