Has anyone tried to rent their house to Dublin City Council ?

Hello,

This is my first time to post on this website so I hope I am in the right place.

We have a vacant house we cannot sell (family reasons) in Dublin. A friend suggested that it might be possible to rent it out to Dublin City Council or another authority, for a period of perhaps up to 5 years.

I'm not clear at all on how to go about this, if the opportunity is still there given the Government has cut back spending and so on. While I've had a brief look on the Internet at Dublin City Council's Housing website I'm not at all clear.

I was wondering if anyone here as done this successfully and if so, if you could please tell me how in simple terms I begin, along with some of the principal "dos and donts" please ?

Thank you very much.

Earl.

yes I did, completed the form for an apartment in Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10 the RAS scheme, sent it to Dublin City Council who replied within 4 days saying the development was over subscribed, so couldn't take the property

it seems that if the Social Housing % of new properties (I think 25%) is fully operational in a particular estate/development, the chances are slim of getting approved for the RAS scheme

whilst I didn't get approval, they were very efficient

Thank you.

Is it just new properties they will consider ?
- our property is approx 25 years old, needs some modernisation but is in a good location.

Thank you for your help.

Earl

to be honest I'm not sure, when I applied (2010) my property was already 6 years old although part of a newish development
