It was attempted theft in a number of cases. They weren't successful in their thieving as the interactions were recorded and liabilities applied, as you mentioned. But they were hoping for the theft to be successful and the transactions not be recorded

Reminds me of the Dan Saunders/National Australia Bank ATM caper...

Reading that article, it sounds like BOI are in a weak position regarding repayments, and that they know it; to paraphrase:

We are giving you an interest-free temporary overdraft for 90 days which you must pay back to us within 90 days, and if you don't well, we will give you an interest-free loan for a further 90 days which you must pay back to us within 90 days, and if you don't well, the bank will “also continue to support any customer impacted, ensuring we offer an appropriate solution for their particular circumstances”.

Doesn't exactly sound like the tough talk one expects from a victim of theft, robbery, scumbaggery and all the other delightful phrases that were used on here. Sounds much more like a meek contrite response from a guilty party that knows it has a very very weak case.

And going back on topic for a moment, apart from the much derided populist statement from Aoife Masterson of SF, which could hardly be considered criticism, the sum total of politicians who criticised the thieving stealing robbing "scumbags" is a big fat zero, correct ?
