Hi all,

Which is better for tiles? For wall and floor-tiles, to use grout or adhesive? I think both are different. May be I am wrong. Could you also mentioned company name and shop.

Thanks in advance

They are different things - adhesive sticks the tiles to the wall or floor, grout goes in the gap between the tiles. You need both, and there are different types. Have you done any tiling before?

Hi,

No havent done tiling before...we bought a new house...It's for that
So what will i need?
I will be have porcelain tiles

I have seen adhesive in bag...i think its a powder

Adhesive is used to bond the tiles to the wall/floor. Once that is dry, grout is then used to fill in the gaps between the tiles. Grout is available in a wide range of colours.

Take a look at sites such as this one for instructions on how to tile and make sure you have all you need, and know exactly what you are doing before you start.

If you need recommendations of where to purchase these or the tiles or tools, please post in the Recommend Tradesmen, Suppliers, etc. forum.

Is it possible to only use grout...So for the bonding and also for the gaps between the tiles? or adhesive is also a must?

Thanks Leo

Hi Leo,

Thanks for that website....I got my answer from there....The tiler also know what he will be in need of (i hope so).

Adhesive is a must. Also, as you will be using porcelain tiles, you will need to get adhesive that is forumlated to work with porcelain.

You NEED flexible adhesive for porcelain tiles.
This can be got in grey and white.
I use white flexible adhesive as default.
Grout of whatever colour is required to fill the space betwwen the tiles once the adhesive hs dried.

The tiler will know what is required (I hope).
I have heard of and seen jobs done where the tiler used premixed bucket wall adhesive to lay 60x60cm porcelain tile.
Make sure the tiler knows what he/she is doing!!!

If your tiler is a pro, then they should be able to avail of trade discounts purchasing these on your behalf.
