Life Group insurance schemes (union)

Would the criteria for gettin into a group insurance plan (union) be the same as if you were to apply on your own.
 
If you mean life assurance then no it wouldnt necessarily. Group life schemes often operate whats called a "freecover limit" that is, up to a certain amount of life cover the insurance company will not seek medical evidence whereas they will if you apply on your own.

This means that up to this freecover limit, people are accepted automatically to the plan regardless of their state of health. If the cover amount required is greater however, they will fully underwrite you.
