For the umpteenth time as I climb into my green bin to squash down the cardboard, I wonder why my recycling bin is only collected fortnightly while the black landfill bin is collected weekly. I could easily reverse that scenario. Any one else find similar.
BTW I could emptly the glass bin of wine and beer bottles daily at the moment.
We have 3 recycling collection a month, 2 rubbish and one glass. They collect the rubbish and recycling on the same day so you only have to leave bins out twice a month to have the same service as the council.
We are still working on our first 140 liters of glass!!!
I don't know if you are in Dublin. I am in SDCC area and I applied for a second green bin. They asked me to apply in writing stating why I felt I needed an extra one. This I did and got another one within a few weeks.

Thanks Ophelia, I will try this. I'm in the Dublin Mountains so Dun laoghaire Rathdown Co. Co.
To answer the other posts, yes probably some of the recyclable waste could be reduced but not much to be honest. It's just a sign of how much we all recycle that used to previously be dumped. Just packaging from milk cartons, foodstuffs etc. etc. I try to buy loose fruit, veg etc. but we still accumulate a lot of paper, plastic etc. My black bin (landfill) only gets put out once every 3 weeks to a month even though there is a weekly collection.
The reason that the green bin is only collected every fortnight and the black bin every week, is that you are paying for the black bin to be collected on a pay per use basis, so they dont care how often you leave it out.
You paid 100 standing charge for the year to cover the green bin collection, so that is all you get for your money.
