Wasnt sure to put it in credit crunch, dealing with the deficit or somewhere else, so I settled on it being a rant and put it here.?

I was just wondering if many people (including the more educated with ears on the inside) have a clue what this governments plan is to save the economy?

I was saying to a friend of mine, were I the taoiseach I would be on TV every chance I could get telling us all that plans are afoot to revitalise the country, irrespective of whether or not its true. Consumer sentiment and public confidence is driven by your confidence in your leaders among other things(particularly in times like these). This is actually one of the few things that Cowen can do for sure!! (ie come on tv to reassure public)

If theres one thing worse then saying the wrong thing, its saying nothing. I reffered our governments stance to that of a doctor who has just given a patient the news that they might have cancer, they dont know when they can be properly diagnosed, they may or may not have a cure, but until the doctor makes a decision on whats the next best course of action, they will just have to "bear with them" for awhile.

The whole country is on tender hooks and IT APPEARS that our government has absolutely no idea what to do. Bring in tough measures, oh wait lets drop them, far too unpopular. Raise taxes, who cares what everybody else is doing. Better still lets not even outline a long term idea to save the economy.

I personally dont have much confidence in the alternative govts either, but I would vote against FF in spite of them at this stage. I would consider myself normally somebody who can be level headed about these kind of things, but I personally feel at the moment that this govt is going to run the country into the ground if it doesnt do something soon. Nobody expects them to have all the answers to all the problems, but its fair to ask of expected them to have at least some answers.

Whatever they do or do not do, they would be better served going public with their intentions. At the moment they really have little to lose. Apparantly FF press office encouraged Mr Cowen to be on tv as little as possible because he doesnt come across well. Im sorry but this isnt about how Cowen can improve his popularity, but how he can calm a nation in dispair. It does make political sense to pull your guy from TV if he comes across poorly, but its sole purpose is to protect the party, not the public.

I should be meeting up with my local FF's helpers to ask them what the hell is going on. They couldnt be more out of touch with the public if they tried . . .

I could go on, but I reckon Ive ranted enough for one day . . . .
