Government to discuss pension reform

As reported in the Irish Times today. Is there any possibility that this could result in a more favorable system for self-directed investing, cutting out middle men like Irish Life etc?

No. You still need an authorised body to "wrap" your pension, which is what the life companies do.

The reform mentioned in the paper is about the pensions time bomb that is looming and what to do about it. It will be more to do with having compulsory pensions than offering fund choice. Seeing as they already have several reports on what to do, this is nothing more than a get rich scheme for the consultants they get in to write up yet another report.

By the time they are finished, there will have been an election, lots of the government will have retired and those remaining will kick it down the road for the next crowd to deal with.

Steven, could you point me in the direction of some of the best reports mentioned in your post above?
