Hi,

I am looking for some referrals for the south kildare area for a new build, tradesmen needed stone mason, plasterer, plumber etc. If anyone has any recommendation of good tradesmen, especially eastern european trades, please PM me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- I was amazed with this article that nobody was giving out about the sign itself. Imagine the outcry if we put up similar signs here picking out a particular race of people.

given the past economic conditions (when demand out stripped supply) Irish trades were quite satisfied to take advantage, completly over charge and generally show total disregard for the customer. Why should I continue to help them repay their loans on their x5's or similar, when I can get good honest work done at a fraction of the price.

Your attitude is what has this country in the mess it's in today

I can recommend excellent bunch of lads.....did my extension in Naas and are local to me and have done numerous extensions in my estate over the years.

But they are Irish lads so you are probably not interested

It seems their will be " No Irish need apply " signs going up in certain parts of South Kildare fairly soon....

Be careful not to tar everybody with the one brush, there are plenty of hardworking and fair Irish tradespeople out there, cowboys also have Eastern European accents.

Mods can you lock this thread or delete this thread.

You can't just decide not to employ Irish man or to specifically ask for east europeans.

Talk about sweeping generalistion.

In all my time here that has to be the most ill informed/ ridiculous post I have read.

Hi Brendan it is very hard not to drag a thread off topic when the poster comes on an Irish site and says he would rather have East Europeans than Irish people.

i could recommend very good tradesmen but im afraid they are irish so no use to you.whoever you get make sure you get detailed written quotations and invoices for any deposits or work completed.

Far be it from me to cast doubt upon the 'paper of record', but is there any corroboration of this story? A photo or two perhaps? My first instinct on reading the story was that it had a slight urban legend quality to it.

In my defence all of my current contractors are Irish, but there are certain trades, IE plasterers and stone masons which people from foreign extraction simply offer better value. I do not find it unresonable to look for the best value out there, and although this may not be the case in 100% of cases it would be in the majority so you gotta play the odds.
I do work on the fringes of the building industry and do have knowledge about prices etc but would rather not get bogged down in a pointless argument,
I know we have been told its our patriotic duty to buy Irish, but I voted yes on Lisbon so looking at the bigger picture. Over the next few years there will be a complete roll reversal with emigration from here to Poland and I would hope if Irish contractors offer excellent value and workmen ship than the same will apply to them

I can offer some more faninating insights on other issues too, but would rather just get relevant information regarding tradespeople (In case I was being sexist)

Someone please tell me this is not racist.

I have a friend who works in a paint shop he is on the fringes of the building trade too!

The majority of Irish contractors give excellent value for money, it annoys me when people talk about, "excellent value and workmen ship", when what they really mean is cheap.

If you were looking for the relevant information on East European trades people you should have gone onto an East European site instead of an Irish one.

I think the poster means he wants tradesmen he can take advantage of by under paying them, not paying vat, demanding extra work, this is more difficult to do with registered good tradesmen,a lot of foriegn tradesmen are not registered some are not qualified.Unfortunately the initial work may be cheaper but in the long run usually when you pay cheap you get cheap.

Or the other point is if you want to pay really cheap prices you should move to the country where those cheap prices exist.
