Got a quote for turning a 1/3 acre area of rough ground (uneven, rocks, overgrown) into lawn. Quote includes digger work, spreading topsoil (already have it), levelling and grass seed.

2500 yo yos. Is this reasonable?

I would say this is reasonable if there is a lot of levelling, rock removal etc. Slim

Might have appeared reasonable to some people 2 yrs ago but certainly is not now.
Third of an acre would not take that long to level out and have top soil spread. 1 day max with the right machine and driver.
Plough it and rotavate at most 1 hour (30 minutes for each)
Roll it if necessary and then the landscapers have a nifty ride on machine that rakes and spreads the seeds half a day max, for this part for a couple of people.
€2,500 seems a lot unless I'm missing something else

Are you prepared to do any of the work yourself? If so, then all you need is the digger to get rid of the rocks and level it out. Then you would need to remove any of the smaller rocks that the digger missed.....spread the topsoil yourself and finish with the grass seed.

A bit of work and effort indeed....but not difficult and very rewarding.

You would save yourself a couple of grand doing it this way.

Also the €2500 quote for that job is laughable.

I know preparing/laying a lawn needs more work than normal grassland but do you think a farmer would pay anything close to 7500 an acre for same? Sounds excessive to me. I'd say shop around, you might find an agricultural contractor who could do just as good a job at a fraction of the cost.

Exactly,
Thats what I did when I had to get my front done (1 acre) Local farmer with a digger and tractor and trailer did the cleaning up and spreading and the another local chap ploughed it and then rotavated for me.
I spent a few evenings collecting any big debris and stones and then we got in a locla landscaper to use his machine to do the rest. ( In hind sight I could have hire the machine and done it myself)
Anyway Farmer with digger charged me €250 which was very cheap considering diesel and all for machine.
Ploughing and rotavating cost €50 and Landscaper charged me €500
