Getting rid of furniture

I want to replace a sitting room suite (sofa and chair). Can't find any charity interested in taking the old suite - even St Vincent de Paul have closed their doors to second hand furniture. Any suggestions on how to get rid? Three-seater sofa and one armchair are structurally sound, but the upholstery is worn and torn in places - would need to be re-covered. Seems a shame to dump. Even dumping is a difficulty, unless one is fortunate enough to take advantage of the Council doing one of their free collections, which I've just missed!

Many local authorities have bring centres where you can get rid of this sort of stuff for about €10.

Group (Yahoo community) called Leinster Free Cycle.

You put in an ad giving details of what you want to give away, and where you're located for people to collect.

Seems a very interesting concept. Have been a member for a while looking at the activity on the mails. There's all sorts of stuff offered and requested by the members.

You have to "offer" something first before you can take anything that anyone else is offering.

Worth checking out for anything you want to get rid of but is in still decent condition.

(No association with this - heard about it on newstalk106).
