getting rid of an old fridge

Hi

We've purchased a new fridge from a wholesale company and because they are wholesale they don't remove the old one. We wouldn't have transport big enough to take it to a recycle plant ourselves and I wondering if anyone could recommend somebody reasonably priced that might be able to remove it for us?

The problem is that if you pay someone with a van to take it away, they have nowhere to put it, unless they put it in a skip, or illegally dump it.

Commercial vehicles and vans cant use the local authority recycling facilities ( This is the case in Dun Laoghaire, and I think this is normal).

So, it is hard to get someone to do this for a reasonable cost.

If the fridge still works you could put it up on freetrade.ie and someone will come and take it for free.

thanks I wouldn't want it disposed of incorrectly, unfortuately it's not working so nobody would want it. I wonder if I could get it into the back of a people carrier or something would the dump take it for a fee??

They might be calling themselves a wholesaler but they're acting as a retailer so can't absolve themselves of their legal obligations?

thanks tiger, but they said the price they charged me doesn't include the WEEE recycling fee, should I persist?

I'd try the people carrier route, if you know anyone with one. Once you take out the seats, they have a huge capacity. The guys in my local recycling centre laugh went they see me 'cos of the amount of stuff I can fit in & all for the costly price of €16.

But as you're getting rid of an electrical item, it's free.

i'd also question about the crowd who sold it to you, I'd have thought if they are able to sell to the public then they have to include the WEEE &* accept back old items

Thanks Sam I'll see if I can arrange a people carrier but will contact the company again and see what they say. They are due to deliver my stuff early next week

I suppose there's no harm, they were recommended to us by our architect and came in very reasonable for all our appliances. Its Hafele based in Wicklow I think
