Getting lost ... while driving in rural Ireland

... although I would usually welcome the challange of navigating the potholes I mean roads of the countryside ... there are times when I would love to see the ocassional signpost indicating the direction of the nearest big town ... or at the very least indicating whether the small village it is pointing to is N S E or W of the current location.
 
A few years back sing posts were stolen from the Waterford countryside. These signs usually end up in plastic paddy pubs!

I have an appalling sense of direction so I bought a compass .. invaluable

I think you can get away without a compass because of the proliferation of statelite dishes as they all point south. Old indian trick that.
