New build here

Can someone advise on how best to kit out a new house with curtains as cheaply as possible

I have got a quote on some fabrics that we like for the kit/liv area and one bedroom only for 6000. This includes the price of the curtain poles and installation,

Has anyone got ideas on how this can be done cheaper

A friend of mine suggested to try and source the fabric and lining and get somebody I know/local to make the curtains

Any other ideas??

Also what is the best type of material to go with that will look well and can yet be thrown into the washing machine, rather than paying a fortune for drycleaning them.

Any experiences/advise on same would be great

I would consider E6000 an outrageous price to pay for curtains for 3 rooms. Don't know where you are getting the fabrics but you could get really good, attractive, quality fabric with good linings for far less than that.
Try Hickeys, (Home Focus) - I got curtains and Roman blinds made up with them and they cost nothing like that. They are up four years now and still looking very good. To be honest I have found that it is always better to have them dry cleaned as washing them is always a bit risky and can take some of the stiffening out of the curtain tapes etc. The kitchen blind is the only one you will have to get cleaned every year and that will only cost around E15. If you are not smokers a gentle dusting down every now and then will keep them looking well. You could try looking in the advertising section of your local supermarket and see if there are any ads. there for curtain making. I got a man to put up the poles for about E75 for the large patio door pole and a kitchen roman blind track.
You could also go for ready made curtains for the bedrooms - there is quite a good selection now in Clerys, Arnotts and Hickeys.
