Are there any exams you can do in the financial field that will not require you to do a course???
I want to do the infamous tax exams but dont have the money to shell out on the course.
In IT, you can study from a book and just do certain exams. You can also do the actuary exams without having to do a course. anyone know of other such exams.
I find lectures a waste when you can just read from a book at your own pace.
im unemployed now and need to occupy myself with further study.
And as a result IT many certifications can be meaningless. Everyone in IT knows someone with a list of certificates who can't do the basics of their field, passing either because they learnt the contents of a book, or they purchased the multi choice answers.
I did the CIMA exams without doing any course. Google CIMA, find the website, look at the exam papers, buy the books on google, book the exams on the Internet etc. etc. It wasn't that expensive and I quite enjoyed it. I never did the very last exam though because I didn't have the relevant work experience. ACCA is probably similar. I would definitely recommend it if you are unemployed because when you go to interviews you will be able to show your certs and diplomas and prove you weren't just watching Judge Judy all day long.
Not exactly in the financial field, but you can do the ICSA Company Secretarial exams without doing a course. Circa 800 per exam. Qualification as a solicitor exempts you from all except the final four (one of which is in finance).
