Hi all,

I just saw an house I want to put the sale agreed on as soon as possible. For this reason, I decided to ask my bank for a mortgage. I am a first time buyer and occupier.

I came in Ireland in 2007 and since then I always had a payslip in my account with AIB. I had a 6 months FTE, then a 1.5 years as consultant and I just joined now another company as FTE. But, I am in probationary period.

Now the bank said that they won't be able to proceed with the mortgage because I am in probationary period, even though:
- I have a 13k saving (between me and my wife) in our EU country of origin
- We never had loan / mortgage
- We have no debt at all
- We can cover the full 8% of the mortgage with our saving in AIB

My wife has no job for now, she is still searching.

The mortgage I am asking for is 92% of around 250k for a semi-detached.

What do you think? Is it the standard situation in all the banks?

You will not be allowed to draw down the mortgage cheque until your probationary period is over and you have been made permanent. This is common for all the lenders.
