Getting a Barbecue?

We are a couple with grown up children. For many years i have resisted the idea of getting a barbecue mainly because i had seen so many discarded in other peoples homes. The pressure is on again and i would welcome the main reasons for having one and also the negatives.
 
They are fantastic, I love doing barbies in the summer, my cousin has a porch out his back he even does them in the winter!!!!
 
Just bought a charcoal bbq last Sunday in woodies.
Sister and her family came over. We had burgers, sausages, chicken etc. Was very nice. Am going to have another one this Sunday for the rest of the family. I suppose the main reason is that it's an excuse to have your friends & family over.
We have a sunroom that I removed, kept the base and capped the wall so we can all sit around and chat, while the children play around.
 
We buy the disposable ones when we want to cook some bbq food on a sunny evening. Would that be an option for you? You get the bbq fun without buying it. Anyway a bbq to buy can start from as little as €30........if it's not used often then it's not the end of the world.

That's so true. I bought one for €30 two years ago to see if we would make use of it. After a summer of reasonable use I invested in a decent one last year. I find it great to cook outside even when overcast.

Gives me the chance to make beer can chicken. Smithwicks is great for it.

bought one in argos about 6 years back for 35eur... great investment... remember get the charcoal ones... much better flavour, might as well use the grill if you for the gas one
 
Big reductions in B&Q on bbqs today. That ws in Derry though. We love barbecuing whenever it's dry. Have a gas one and last year built a brick one for charcoal. Great. Slim

Dewdrop, like the others I would def recommend it, I know what you mean about them being discarded in peoples gardens and for that reason i am not into paying big money for them, as no matter how much you pay they inevitably end up getting left out at some stage and start tk look like crap. We have a reasonably good gas one, outback, cost 100 about 3 years ago and still perfect, wouldn't be without it. I'd love one of the new ones with the cast iron racks (they look easier to clean) but I can't justify the cost
 
Elm, can I ask a dumb question please, does your brick one get infested with spiders or anything when it's out of use, my husband is an Aussie and wanted to build one and that's what's putting me off, I know even if the other one got left out I can get at every bit of it and scrub it
 
I had a €15 one from Argos that I've just scrapped after five or six years service. I'll be picking up one of [broken link removed] in the coming days.
