Gas tank central heating

Recently I went to view house with gas fired central heating with a gas tank submerged in the garden. The heating boiler and tank were updated approx 10 years ago. I'm just wondering if gas tank heating is economical/efficient and how easy to convert to an air to water or oil system if needed? TIA

The SEAI includes bulk LPG in its analysis of the varying costs of fuels. It's more expensive than oil and a problem that has been raised here in the past is that the suppliers can lock you in with significant costs involved to switch. If you want to continue with LPG, check out whether the tank is actually owned by one of the two suppliers.

Gas will be as efficient as the equivalent aged oil boiler however the cost of LPG tends to be higher than oil.

You could change oil and gas interchangeably as they are both high temp radiators.

A heat pump will require potentially new radiators, at ten years old I would look to upgrade in the say 5 years. I would not switch from gas to oil as they are both fossil fuels and would be a costly switch for not much gain.

I would look to make fabric upgrades to the house so in five years you could replace the then 15 year old boiler with a heat pump.
